Ruderer Klebetechnik GmbH was planning a B2B e-commerce platform to give their trade customers a way of placing orders independently through a web-based system.
The system to be planned was to draw its product and customer information via REST API from the existing ERP system "Business Express", which is looked after by Dontenwill AG.
Since the Magento framework's feature set was barely used anywhere in the client's statement of requirements, we advised the client towards a considerably more cost-effective custom solution.
Professional, client-focused advice means genuine expertise in our view, and so we had to depart from an approach built on our preferred e-commerce framework. Our solution for the client is a web application based on the Symfony framework. Symfony is a collection of reusable PHP components and a PHP framework for building web applications, APIs, microservices and web services. For the frontend we use Vue.js, a client-side JavaScript web framework for building single-page applications on the MVVM pattern. These modern technologies were ideally suited to the challenge.
Advantages of the bespoke approach
The challenge on this project was carrying the quality criteria we apply to Magento systems from experience across to the new approach.
The API had to be planned up front so that the ERP provider could implement the API endpoints in parallel.
The client's verdict on our work, and our own view of the project, satisfied everyone involved, because the project goal was met in full and without compromise in scope or quality.
